James Koh x Fantasy Points

John ‘The Guru’ Hansen and Brian Drake host The Fantasy Points Podcast, where they were recently joined by fantasy expert James Koh from Reception Perception. Some highlights:
Tips and Tricks for Drafting in 2024.
Round 1 RBs: Hansen is hammering RBs in the first round to find a team anchor with CMC, Breece Hall, Bijan Robinson, Jahmyr Gibbs and Jonathan Taylor. Koh agrees that outside this top 5, safety and security is scarce.
You have guys like Henry (age and fall-off potential), Kyren Williams (Corum looming and the potential drop in touches), Achane (Mostert is still there), etc. Grab a top RB in the first without injury issues, a looming backup/rookie or mileage.
Love vs Stroud. Koh and Hansen both believe CJ Stroud is a top 5 QB for 2024 and a safe option compared to Love - but if there’s a three ADP round difference, the decision becomes tighter based on team building. Stroud’s ceiling is higher, but both of these guys could be fantastic in 2024. Koh is all wheels up for Stroud.
Bears WRs. Hansen feels the Bears WRs (Moore, Allen, Odunze) are going far too high, specifically for Underdog, saying there's only one ball. Koh believes that Odunze at the 70ish ADP is far too low, saying his TD upside is high. He believes he can hit anywhere from 700-1000 yards and 5ish TDs.
The Bears will need to throw the ball far more in 2024 than they did last season, but this is a new team. Moore should be the top WR here, but Allen might dominate touches early.

Build a Dynasty

Scott Barrett dives into dynasty fantasy football for 2024 and how to dominate your draft and the season ahead. Here are some highlights:
Starting a dynasty fantasy football league and want to know where to start? Here are Scott’s favorite tips:
1) To build a superteam, you need to employ Scott's “Tank then Bank” strategy. Most players will try to focus on winning in the near future (1 to 2 years) and rebuild later when you should focus on winning indefinitely by drafting a team that has a chance to be a juggernaut for a half-decade. The reward of finishing dead last in the first year of your dynasty draft is great, so punting year 1 is worth it.
2) Trade down in start-up drafts. Scott wants to trade down as much as possible to acquire extra picks, specifically rookie picks for the following seasons. Rookie picks can dramatically change the structure of your team (think Justin Jefferson), and they don’t depreciate. Trade down in your drafts and try to acquire picks.
3) Trade early and often. Trades are huge in dynasty. Dynasty leagues trade far more than redraft, and this is how you can maneuver and change your team. You should always be polling other managers, learning their needs, and trying to work with them on offers. Don’t worry about typical trade calculators, read fantasy points articles, listen to beat reporters and trust your gut. Don’t overdo it, but develop this skill and you’ll be better off.
4) Customize your strategy to your league settings. This goes a couple of directions. You should always know the exact settings and scoring formats for your league to dominate. If it’s PPR, draft more pass catchers. If it’s 2 QB, focus on value. If it’s multiple flex and WR positions, draft more wide outs.
But this also goes for knowing your league mates. Swerve where they’re not. If they’re all going win now, you should tank and bank. If they’re all tanking, you should try to win now in certain scenarios. Truly work to understand your league and the managers in it, and it will pay off in spades.

Best Ball
How To Win Best Ball

Breece Hall // Jim McIsaac
Scott Barrett and Ryan Heath highlight essential and value picks for best ball.
Running Backs
Must Draft - Breece Hall. Hall finished as fantasy football’s RB2 (PPR) or RB3 (half-PPR) last year, even though he:
played with the worst QB in football
was 9 months removed from ACL surgery
ranked 27th in XFP/G through the first 11 weeks of the season and
played on a team that trailed on 66% of their offensive plays (2nd worst)
From week 12 on, he averaged 15.1 carries and almost 8 targets per game - putting him in league-winning skillset territory. He should be one of the first two RBs off the board this year.
Value - Tyjae Spears. If you remove all 1st down plays last year, Spears led all RBs with an 18.4% target share - better than Kamara and McCaffrey. He’s already one of the league’s best pass-catching backs and the Titans look to be more pass-heavy in 2024 under Brian Callahan.
With Henry out of the way, his only red zone competition is Tony Pollard, who is coming off one of the least efficient seasons by an RB of the past decade. Expect a year 2 jump for Spears.
Wide Receivers
Must Draft -Jaylen Waddle. Waddle’s 2023 season felt disappointing for two main reasons, each of which can change in 2024:
Over the past 3 seasons, WRs have scored a TD for every 166 receiving yards on average, but Waddle’s ratio was a TD for every 254 yards last year - positive regression is coming.
Waddle was consistently in and out of games with minor injuries, especially in the first half of the season. He’s never had durability issues in the NFL before last year, so this was likely a fluke.
The Dolphins’ injury report LIED to us all last year.
Jaylen Waddle was banged up throughout 2023:
Weeks 1-2: Limited Wednesdays with an oblique, knocked out of W2 with a concussion
Week 3: Out
Weeks 4-5: <66% route share (MIA being extra cautious with concussions?)

When Waddle was on the field, he was an incredible fantasy asset. In the six games, Waddle crested a 70% route share, he averaged 14.4 Underdog FPG (8th best), and 83.3 receiving YPG (10th best). His ADP is WR17…go get the upside.
Value - Ladd McConkey. Barrett’s pre-draft rookie WR5 landed on a team that lost Keenan Allen, Austin Ekeler, Gerald Everett and Mike Williams. It’s an ideal fit for a ‘high-end PPR cheat code upside’ player like McConkey. His ADP is WR40…attack this spot.
Quarterbacks
Must Draft -Joe Burrow. Burrow was severely limited by a calf strain to start last season. If we throw out the first four games of the year and the final game of the year (when he tore a ligament in his wrist), he averaged 23.3 FPG over his last 25 games and has averaged at least 20.5 FPG in each of the last three seasons. Only Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts have hit 20.5 FPG in each of the last three seasons.
Somehow, Burrow is only priced at QB7 on Underdog, so this is one of the best injury discounts in fantasy history. Must-draft.
Value - Jordan Love. In 2023, Jordan Love ranked 5th among all QBs in fantasy points per start (19.4) and he seemed to get better over the year, hitting at least 17.5 fantasy points in 8 of his last 9 games. Love with benefit from healthy weapons in 2024 and all of his young receivers now have another year of experience. Safe bet to pay off his QB10 ADP.
Tight Ends
Must Draft - Jake Ferguson. Massive positive touchdown regression is coming on top of his TE9 finish last season. He led all TEs in red zone targets (21) and ranked 2nd in end zone targets (9) despite finishing in a 5-way tie for 7th place in TDs.
Dallas is one of the safest offenses for a fantasy TE - the tight end on the Cowboys has ranked top 10 in total targets in 8 of the last 9 seasons. They don’t have a lot of other options besides CeeDee Lamb…so Ferguson is a good bet.
Value - Hunter Henry. We might need to take more of a look at the Patriots offense this year and not make a similar mistake we made with the Texans last year. They may take a leap with Drake Maye (top 3 pick) and Alex Van Pelt (a Kevin Stefanski disciple, who gave us Njoku and McBride breakouts).
Henry outperformed his TE19 ADP last year despite the Pats ranking bottom 5 in passing yards and TDs. This is a good value option.
