The Fantasy Points Podcast

Ross Tucker x Fantasy Points

Jerry Jones | LM Otero, Associated Press

John ‘The Guru’ Hansen and Brian Drake host The Fantasy Points Podcast, where they were recently joined by broadcaster and former NFL o-lineman Ross Tucker. Some highlights:

Dallas Cowboys: Ross eviscerated the Dallas Cowboys. ‘I don’t really know what the cowboys are doing, period.’ The guys agreed that the Cowboys are doing a horrendous job managing their current players & contracts.

For some reason, they refuse to sign two of their best players (Lamb, Parsons), their O-line is unproven and young and they lack real true vision moving forward. Why are they not going all in?

Offensive Line Upgrades: Ross believes the Steelers have made significant strides to improve their offensive line play - going as far as to say they drafted two of his three favorite linemen in the 2024 draft and calling them “badasses.”

Ross wants the Steelers to return to their mauler traditions, and it seems they’re taking the necessary steps to do so. Arthur Smith’s run scheme, improved offensive line with a “badass” mentality and a contract year Najee Harris (who’s lost some weight)? Sign us up.

Best Press Box Food: Ross says the Packers and Lambo Field have the best media spread for the press box. His play? Omelet in the morning before pre-game, full plate of pulled pork with a stack of mac & cheese on top right before kickoff - and two bratwurst at halftime. A true veteran.

Fantasy Points Data 101

The Basics

Ryan Heath dives into a tutorial on how to get started using the Fantasy Points Data Suite.

The Fantasy Points Data Suite is the most valuable and powerful football research tool available on the internet. Period. You’ll never lose a football debate again.

A few questions the Data Suite helps you answer:

How does Amon-Ra St. Brown perform on different routes run - based on alignment out wide, in the slot, inline, and from the backfield?

How many routes did Christian McCaffrey run per QB dropback? How does CMC compare to Jonathan Taylorin this category?

Any type of stat NFL stat you desire, the Fantasy Points Data Suite has it.

Curious about who had the most passing yards in any individual game last year?

Who had the deepest average target?

You can access each answer from the Data Suite Dashboard. The Basic Passing, Basic Rushing and Basic Receiving tables are all free with an account, so check it out!

Ryan explains how to navigate this dashboard in the easiest possible way - find his full breakdown here.

Advanced Passing

Want to take it a step further beyond the basic dashboards? Interested in improving your understanding of QB play in the NFL? Start with Advanced Passing.

Curious about pressures and time to throw? You can do that, too. Based on Ryan’s research using the tool, Justin Fields, Russell Wilson and Bryce Young took the longest average time to throw in the NFL.

Who had the highest percentage of checkdowns in 2023? Spoiler - it’s not Tua or Purdy, despite NFL Twitter telling you otherwise. Both had the lowest rates of any QB - as found in our Advanced Passing tool.

Who was the most accurate QB in 2023? If you’re a Justin Herbert defender - I have good news. The Advanced Passing tool and our team charted him as the most accurate QB (57%), where Minshew, Pickett and Wilson were the bottom 3.

All of these stats can be found in seconds using our tools. But this is just scratching the surface.

Best Bets

Superbowl Odds

Tom Brolley dives into the latest Super Bowl 59 odds.

The eventual Super Bowl winner has come from the top-three favorites in preseason odds in a whopping 8 of the last 10 seasons - the 2017 Eagles were the only team with longer than +1200 odds to win it in the last decade.

That being said, we’ve seen five teams priced at +2500 get close to winning the big one in the last decade, like the 2022 Eagles, 2021 Bengals and 2019 Niners.

Best Bet - Cincinnati Bengals (+1500, DraftKings). The Chiefs are obviously the AFC gatekeepers, but the Bengals are the only AFC team to take them out in the last five seasons and Burrow is the only active QB to do it. The Bengals have come close to winning it all, though they’ll need to prove it again with a (hopefully) healthy Burrow and some player movement. The Bengals have a great schedule on paper, so this could be the year they put it all together.

MVP Odds

Tom Brolley examines the latest NFL MVP odds.

The MVP winner is often driven by a good narrative (since media voters decide the award), so it’s important to remember it’s not entirely on-field results. The early 2024 MVP favorites include Patrick Mahomes (+476), Josh Allen (+850), C.J. Stroud (+850) and Joe Burrow (+900) on DraftKings.

We’re looking for a great player and a better storyline for 2024 MVP odds.

Best Bet - Jalen Hurts (+1800, Caesars). Hurts has been in the MVP discussion each of the last two seasons and has a great chance to break through in 2024. The offense looks to get back on track with new OC Kellen Moore, who had the Cowboys second to the Chiefs in offensive PPG during his 4 years in Dallas. Their schedule looks easier than last year, they brought in Saquon Barkley to pair with their already elite weapons - Hurts has a strong narrative if the Eagles bounce back.

Considered, But Passed On - Aaron Rodgers (+2500, Fanduel). The Jets have improved their receiving corps and added significant pass protection to their line, but Rodgers only has the 12th best odds to win MVP, compared to 6th this time last year. He’s in NY and it’s clear to see the potential for a fantastic storyline here, but at age 40 coming off a catastrophic leg injury, this isn’t a safe bet. Hackett is also still the OC, so we might still be watching the same uninspiring offense in 2024. The media also despise Rodgers… so votes will be hard to come by (unless they have no choice).
