Dynasty Rankings

Scott Barrett’s Top WRs

Scott Barrett uses his proprietary analytical model to rank the incoming rookie receiver class for dynasty fantasy football.

The most interesting fantasy prospect is undoubtedly Travis Hunter. In his most recent Rookie WR Dynasty Rankings article, Barrett refers to the Heisman Trophy, Biletnikoff Award (best WR), and Bednarik Award (best defensive player) winner as both “the best and 2nd-best players” in college football. But that complicates his fantasy value…

  • Best-case scenario: A team like the Browns drafts and develops Hunter as a WR (close to zero defensive snaps), meaning he’s no longer splitting reps between offense and defense and emerges as a top-5 WR in the NFL.

  • Most likely scenario: a team drafts Hunter to play both ways, and since it’s much harder to be a full-time receiver who works in on packages as a CB than the reverse of that, he ends up as a CB first and foremost. That would squash his fantasy upside, as we’ve never seen a WR finish top-45 at the position while running a route on fewer than two-thirds of a team’s dropbacks within the Fantasy Points Data era.

Name you should know: Elic Ayomanor

The Canadian-born WR broke out immediately at age 20 in 2023 with 1,013 yards and 6 TDs on 62 receptions. His 941 yards when lined up out-wide that season ranked 4th-best among Power Conference WRs, on a top-6 list that included Rome Odunze, Troy Franklin, Brian Thomas Jr., Tetairoa McMillan, and Marvin Harrison Jr.🔥

Second-Year WR Breakouts

Ryan Heath highlights some 2024 rookies primed for a big year in 2025 fantasy football.

Heath’s top-ranked sophomore WR: Brian Thomas Jr.

BTJ’s 284 PPR points were the 4th-most by a rookie since 2010, behind only Odell Beckham, Puka Nacua, and Ja’Marr Chase. And if you throw out Weeks 8-11 where he played through a visible chest injury, Thomas would’ve averaged 18.9 FPG (~WR3 last season, or the most by a rookie WR since Beckham).

If that wasn’t enough for ya, new HC Liam Coen’s “McShanahan” system just produced the WR2 and WR10 by FPG with the Bucs last season, so we should look forward to more manufactured touches for BTJ in 2025.

A surprising name Heath’s avoiding? Marvin Harrison Jr.

Despite MHJ truthers pounding the table for a rebound in 2025, Heath cautions that the routes he’s been asked to run in Arizona (corner and go routes) aren’t valuable for fantasy football. Unless we see a trend early on of more in-breaking routes for Harrison, his dynasty ADP of WR10 is about a round too steep.

2025 NFL Draft WR Props

Matthew Golden // Dale Zanine, Imagn Images

Betting expert Tom Brolley highlights the best 2025 NFL Draft Props for the top WR prospects.

First Wide Receiver Drafted (Not including Travis Hunter): Matthew Golden (+170, FanDuel)

Golden has been a riser in the pre-draft process after posting the fastest 40-time among all WRs at 4.29 seconds. Xavier Worthy (2024), Jameson Williams (2022), and Henry Ruggs (2020) are some recent WRs who moved up the ranks in the final months before the draft thanks to elite 40-times, and Brolley thinks Golden could be next.

Don’t put it past Jerry Jones and the Cowboys to take the speedy Texas WR at 12 overall.

Tetairoa McMillan Draft Position: Over 17.5 (+120, Bet365)

Once considered the clear-cut WR1 in this class, T-Mac has been losing some steam as of late. An old video surfaced of him saying he doesn’t watch football and doesn’t like watching film, which raised some red flags for teams potentially investing a first-round pick in him. With other prospects like Golden turning heads, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see McMillan fall.

Dynasty Corner

Cheap Receivers To Buy

Marvin Mims // Justin Edmond, Getty Images

Zach Swails explains why you should be buying veterans with your dynasty rookie picks.

Despite being a highly touted prospect in the 2023 draft, Marvin Mims has confusingly failed to become a full-time player (28.1% route share in 2024) despite elite per-route efficiency. His 2.78 YPRR and .78 FP/RR ranked 6th-best and 4th-best at the position last year, respectively.

  • Why you should buy him: His elusiveness in the open field earned him an enormously high designed target rate of 57.1% from Week 10 on (2nd in the NFL among players with 75+ routes ran). And from Week 13 on, Mims’ total route share climbed to 40%+ before peaking in the wild-card game at 67.9%. He should produce more consistently if he continues to earn Sean Payton’s trust.

Another WR trade target: Cedric Tillman

Tillman ranked 16th in targets per game (8.4) last season, averaging a respectable 20.1% target share in games with Jameis Winston, on which he averaged 18.7 FPG (would rank ~WR5). In weeks 7-12, Tillman was tied for the 2nd-most red zone targets in the NFL (6) and was primed for a breakout season before missing his final six games with a concussion.
